My job working as a corrections officer in a very dangerous prison is to try and make things safe for any person behind these walls. When you have very violent inmates and introduce drugs into the mix, things are more dangerous for me, other inmates, officers, staff, and anyone who is coming to the jail to visit. Me and my fellow officers do whatever it takes to try and make our facility safer each day, and we have a number of key resources that are responsible for doing just that.
In the past, we had been making use of some very traditional tools to help us to maintain peace inside the prison. To keep drugs from passing from visitor to inmate, we utilize the scanning and x-ray search equipment, after warning all parties of the serious consequences of being caught trying to do this. We have drug-sniffing dogs that we bring on cell inspections to try and locate anything that should not be in the possession of the inmates. While we used to just listen in on inmate calls, now thanks to Securus Technologies, we are able to identify conversations on the phone concerning drugs across multiple channels.
The Securus Technologies is in thousands of prisons because it does the job of several officers while detecting any unique chatter by inmates. The LBS software will alert my team if any inmate is talking about anything drug related. This gives us the ability to take immediate action, not be in reaction. If we hear an inmate talking about how their family can pass them drugs at the visitor center, we take action. If inmates are bragging to others on the phone, we get to eliminate the threat. Securus Technologies is making the prison safer by allowing my team to stop drug-related activities before they get out of hand.
